About IN-MI

IN-MI is a small institute in Maryland that helps new Muslims after Shahadah. We teach, we match people with mentors, and we help masjids keep new Muslims coming back.

Why IN-MI exists

Someone takes Shahadah at a masjid. The room says Allahu akbar, people hug them, and then everyone goes home.

A month later many of them have stopped coming. They were not taught to pray. They had nobody to ask. Some lost their family and found no new one.

IN-MI is here for that month, and the years after it.

Imam (Uncle) Samir Ismail

Uncle Samir has taught new Muslims in Maryland for years. He started IN-MI because many people take Shahadah, get congratulated, and are then left to learn Islam alone. IN-MI teaches from the Qur'an and Sunnah, the first three generations of Muslims, and the four Sunni schools.

What we teach from

  1. 1The Qur'anThe word of Allah.
  2. 2The SunnahWhat the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, did and approved.
  3. 3The first three generationsHow the Companions and the two generations after them understood Islam.
  4. 4The four Sunni schoolsWe respect all four and do not ask you to pick sides.

What IN-MI is not

  1. 1Not a new groupWe are ordinary Sunni Muslims. We want you at your local masjid.
  2. 2Not a replacement for your masjidWe help you find one and feel at home there.
  3. 3Not a place for argumentsWe teach what is agreed on first and keep the debates for later.
  4. 4Never paidEverything a new Muslim needs from IN-MI is free.
